The HCP covers oil and gas development across the lesser prairie-chicken’s ranges. LPC Conservation LLC’s HCP will fully offset impacts from enrolled projects while providing regulatory certainty for oil and gas development across its range.
In 2025, FWS approved an amendment to the LEPC Oil and Gas HCP. The amendment incorporated the revised estimated occupied range (EOR) for the lesser prairie-chicken and corresponding HCP Plan Areas that covers portions of Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. By expanding the covered area of this HCP, the amendment will ensures that any energy developers interested in operating within the expanded areas of the lesser prairie-chicken range, will have the same streamlined ESA mechanisms available as the other portions of the species' range.
